Singing is one of the most
amazing, rewarding and joyful activities human beings are capable
of! Everybody sings -- in the shower, in the car, to their
children...it doesn't matter whether you can keep a tune, have a
"pretty" voice, or know anything about music: learning to sing teaches
confidence, helps with physical and emotional well-being, and develops
discipline and focus.
The only thing more rewarding than singing itself is TEACHING
singing! And I am pleased to announce that my husband and I are
now offering voice lessons in our new home of Elk Grove, California,
after leaving busy New York City for the peace and quiet of the suburbs.
Both my husband and I are experienced music teachers, having taught
singing and piano for over 10 years to young and old, from absolute
beginners to aspiring professionals. Erik received his musical
education from some of the best teachers in Germany, studying voice and
piano at the renowned Hochschule für Musik in East Berlin. I
graduated magnum cum laude
from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and
Anthropology before studying voice at Boston's New England Conservatory
and earning both a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of
Music in Opera Studies. We have had the tremendous luck and honor
to have taken masterclasses from some of the best artists living, and
together we try to pass on as much of that knowledge as we can.
We teach classical vocal technique, which forms the basis for all
styles of singing: opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop or rock.
Individually tailored lessons give each student the tools to sing
comfortably through the whole range of their voices, with color, beauty
and self-confidence. We also teach the basics of music theory,
from key signatures and solfège to modulations and clefs, so
that students can continue to learn on their own. Erik also
offers piano/keyboard lessons, with a focus on developing a solid
classical technique that can be used as a basis for jazz, pop and
musical theatre repertoire.
Lessons are taught in Elk Grove and are structured around a monthly
plan, with weekly lessons of
30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on age and the student's level.
